Top Ten Books on my Summer TBR Pile

June 16, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and BookishTop Ten Tuesday is hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I FINALLY BROKE THE TREND! I read 6 books from my Spring TBR pile, which I’m thrilled about, so hopefully that theme will continue with my summer reads. It’s contemporary heavy because it’s summer and it’s pretty much a rule for me that I have to read contemporary books in summer.

Top Ten Books in my Beach Bag

May 26, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and BookishTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This week’s topic was quite appropriate for me, considering I’m heading off to Mexico for 2 glorious weeks on Saturday! To save on luggage space (and my boyfriend’s sanity!) I’m only taking one physical book and my Kindle with me, so I’ll have plenty of books to choose from as I lounge by the pool or on the beach. Whether I’ll get much reading done is a totally different matter though…

1) Life After Life by Kate Atkinson

I love the sound of the concept for this one, and I’m really intrigued to see how Kate Atkinson pulls it off! This is a pretty chunky book too (just shy of 550 pages!) but I’m hopeful that I’ll get sucked into the story enough to notice!

2) Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas

Okay, I’m RIDICULOUSLY excited to read this one. It sounds like such a heartbreaking story that I’m going to fall in love with. I may have let out a totally over the top squeal when I got my approval email from Netgalley…

3) Thirteen Days of Midnight by Leo Hunt

Again, the sound of this one really appealed to me, and I’m hoping that it actually is as good as it sounds. Ghost stories can be a little hit and miss with me, so we’ll have to wait and see.

4) Out of Control by Sarah Alderson

I’ve just finished reading Conspiracy Girl and I loved it, so naturally I’m going to be picking this one up soon. I love Alderson’s writing so I’m thinking this one will be a fast-paced, quick read for me.

5) My Favourite Mistake by Chelsea M. Cameron

I haven’t read any New Adult in such a long time, and this one has been on my kindle for ages, so it seems like the perfect time to read this one!

6) The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

EVERYONE raves about Kasie West, so I’m looking forward to seeing what all the hype is about.

7) Ferryman by Claire McFall

I know that Faye loves this book and encouraged me to purchase it ages ago, and I’m slightly confused as to why I haven’t already read it?

8) All the Truth That’s in Me by Julie Berry

There’s a lot of mixed reviews for this book, and I’m not entirely sure what it’s all about but I am looking forward to finding out.

9) Merch Girl by Rebecca Lewis

Merch Girl is a book I KNOW 14 year old me would love, so I’m hoping 22 year old me feels the same…

10) Only Mine by Susan Mallery

I need to read more of this series, enough said.

Top Ten Series I Want to Binge Read Soon

May 19, 2015

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week was a freebie topic, so I thought I’d go with series that I would love to binge read soon. As some of you may know, I’m trying my hardest to catch up on the series that I’ve already started, but there are some new series calling out to me, begging to be read!

1) Throne of Glass by Sarah J Maas
I have all the books. I’m prepared. I just need to psyche myself up to pick up Throne of Glass and start reading.

2) The Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo
I have already read Shadow and Bone, but I am well overdue for a re-read before picking up Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising and devouring them. I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS.

3) Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry
I read Pushing the Limits aaaages ago, but I’ve finally picked up the rest of the books in the series and I’m so ready for a major swoon-fest. SO READY.

4) Chaos Walking by Patrick Ness
I’ve been telling myself that I’m going to read this trilogy for years, and it still hasn’t happened. I’m changing this soon. I promise.

5) The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa
Again, I’ve read the first two books in this series, but I’m really ready to be caught up on this series as I do really enjoy reading it.

6) Soul Screamers by Rachel Vincent
How long have I been telling myself that I’ll read this series? Way too long. I own six out of seven books in the series as well, which is terrible but also wonderful as I won’t have to wait to pick up the next book in the series!

7) Guards of the Shadowlands by Sarah Fine
I bought all three of these books when they featured on various Kindle Daily Deals, so I have them all lined up, ready and waiting for me to click on them.

8) The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan
I’m planning on saving this for a halloween binge read, because this series would be PERFECT for that time of year. Although whether I’ll be able to wait that long is a totally different matter!

9) The Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater
Again, I’ve owned this series for SO LONG and I still haven’t read it all. I’m planning on re-reading Shiver very soon and then continuing on with the rest of the series straight after.

10) Black Dagger Brotherhood by J.R Ward
Is this series even complete? I’m not sure, but I do know that I have a lot of books to catch up on, which I should probably think about doing soon…

Top Ten Books on my Spring TBR Pile

March 17, 2015

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

*whistles innocently* What do you mean, I never stick to these lists?! I’ll have you know I read 4 books off my Winter TBR pile, which counts as a huge victory for me! One book is being carried over from that TBR pile because I am desperately overdue with continuing the Lucky Harbor series, and the rest are almost all standalones or continuing with a series. The only exception is September Sky, which is the start of a new series, but I can’t not start the John A. Heldt’s new series. I LOVE HIS BOOKS!

Top Ten Book-Related Problems I Have!

February 17, 2015

toptentuesdayTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I don’t like calling these problems, I feel they’re more quirks I have instead…

1) The Reading Grunt
This is equal parts embarrassing and annoying, but when I’m super, super engrossed in something…I end up grunting replies to people when they talk to me. I don’t discriminate either: family, friends, work colleagues and my boyfriend have all been on the receiving end of that grunt too.

2) I’m too scared to lend out my books
I know I’m not the only one here, but I’m too scared to loan people my books. My boyfriend mentioned borrowing my set of The Hunger Games books to read…I told him he’d have to borrow them whilst I was there to keep an eye on them. I’m way too protective over my books.

3) I get in slumps really easily
I have two speeds: I binge read on books at the speed of light, or I hit a slump and read at the same speed I’d wade through treacle. And I hate it.

4) My books are taking over my room
Self-explanatory. I’ll never forget the look of combined wonder and horror when my boyfriend spotted my overflowing bookshelf for the first time.

5) I hurry through conversations to get back to my book
And people know I’m doing it too

6) My friends only ask for book recommendations when they have a spare half-hour to waste
You can’t just recommend one book…what happens if they don’t like it?! Options are a readers best friend.

7) The amount of series I’ve started is terrifying
I’m trying to plug through them, but seriously, it’s ridiculous. And overwhelming.

8) I have all these books that I want to read and I just can’t get to them
This could be rectified if I stopped procrastinating and just read.

9) I can never find a bookmark when I need one
Leading to a strange assortment of items taking their place.

10) Don’t talk to me when I’m reading…I won’t listen to you
Yes, I’m finally admitting it. I don’t listen. Hence why I grunt. I’m a terrible person, I KNOW.

Top Ten Books I Received in 2014 But Never Read

January 13, 2015

toptentuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

This week we’re discussing the thing that no-one likes talking about – those 2014 releases we acquired but never found the time to pick up. Brace yourselves for my list, it’s kind of embarrassing.

Top Ten Tuesday Jan 13th 2015Okay, Since You’ve Been Gone is totally inexcusable because Morgan Matson is one of my favourite authors, and I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet. City of Heavenly Fire is because I still haven’t read Clockwork Princess (I KNOW, okay.) and Fangirl I think is because everyone seemed to rave about it and I’m so scared incase I don’t love it like you all seem to.

Do you have any unread 2014 releases lurking on your shelves? Let me know which ones!
