Top Eight Pre-Blogging Books I STILL Haven’t Read

August 23, 2016

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish.

I thought this was going to be an easy topic to put together, but after sitting and thinking about it (with multiple Goodreads references), I don’t have too many pre-blogging books still staring at me from my TBR pile.

-Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
Way back when, I used to look on the Mibba book forums quite a bit, and this book was constantly recommended by nearly everyone. I own it, plus books 4-6 in the series, but I still haven’t picked it up.

-This Lullaby by Sarah Dessen
I was convinced that this was going to be the only Sarah Dessen book I’d ever read, but I’ve         managed to pick up Lock & Key and The Truth About Forever, plus bought a few more, and         STILL not picked up This Lullaby yet.

-Tithe by Holly Black
I don’t even own a copy of this book, yet it has been on my radar for YEARS, AND I STILL HAVEN’T PICKED UP A COPY. What is wrong with me?!

-The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks
I’ve tried and tried and tried with this book, but I just haven’t been able to commit to reading it entirely, which is a shame as I’ve enjoyed Sparks’ work in the past. I have a feeling that this is going to remain one of those books that never get read.

-Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
I’m just not even going to bother talking about P&P. I’ve lost count how many times I’ve said I was going to pick it up.

-The Jessica Darling series by Megan McCafferty
I think the main reason why I haven’t read these is purely because they’re quite difficult to get hold of, which is so frustrating as I’m pretty sure I’d love the series.

-Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
One day I’ll read these books. One day I may even binge read them. Who knows?

-Anything Ellen Hopkins
I’m not sure if I’ll be able to bring myself to read any of Ellen Hopkins books, because I know they’re quite traumatic and deal with tricky subjects, but they’ve been on my radar for a long, long time.

Top Five Bookish Resolutions for 2016

January 5, 2016

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

Ah, bookish resolutions. How I love to set you and then watch myself fail miserably at them. (You all think I’m kidding but I’ve just taken a look back at several of my bookish resolutions for the past few years, and guess how many I completed? NONE OF THEM.) Anyway, we all love a good list, and you never know, 2016 may be the year that I meet one of them. (Stop laughing. I can hear you all.

Read City of Heavenly Fire
I think it’s time I finally put this series to bed. I completed The Infernal Devices last year (yay!), so I am prepped and ready to read this beast of a book.

Catch up with my Netgalley Reviews
This should be fairly easy to do as I haven’t got many left to catch up on! But I do want to be more conscientious with my Netgalley reviews and try and read, review and post them in a timely manner.

Only review books that I want to review
Review books aside, I don’t want to review every book I read if I don’t want to. If I want to talk about the book here, then I will. And if I don’t feel like I have anything to say about it, then I don’t want to force myself into reviewing it for the sake of writing a review.

Finally start the Throne of Glass series
Everyone raves about it and I really need to get my arse into gear and just pick the books up.

Pick up a few non-fiction titles
I haven’t got a clue what these will be, but I want to read some non-fiction this year, so hopefully I can do so!

8 Series I Just Won’t Give Up On

October 6, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

We all know by now that I’m slightly obsessed with starting a new series and then abandoning them, but this year, I’ve been pretty strict with myself when it comes to starting a new series or finishing up an old one. I’ve already waved goodbye to a few series, but there are just some that I won’t give up. Even if I am far behind on them.

top ten tuesday 6/10/2015

Lucky Harbor by Jill Shalvis – I’ve managed to read the first three, and I have the fourth and fifth books on my shelf, but I just cannot keep up with this series! It’s so good though, I know I won’t be putting it to one side any time soon.

The Iron Fey by Julie Kagawa – I should probably give this up as a bad job, BUT I CAN’T. I might have only read the first two in the series, and I’ll definitely need to re-read them before continuing on with book three, but I will definitely finish it soon.

Lux by Jennifer L. Armentrout – I loved the first book, but then got distracted by other series, and just never got round to reading the rest. Definitely one to be rectified soon.

Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry – I even bought the rest of this series to binge read earlier this year, and I’m STILL not caught up. Naughty me.

Fool’s Gold by Susan Mallery – I feel like these books are all very similar in style, but they are so addictive that I cannot stop reading them. Even if there are tons of them.

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi – I didn’t LOVE this book the first time around, but I’m willing to give it another go, and finish up the series whilst I’m at it.

Losing It by Cora Carmack – Losing It made me laugh so much that I cannot wait to read the rest of the books. (Remind me why I haven’t already?)

Gallagher Girls by Ally Carter – I stopped reading this series because my library didn’t stock the rest of the books after book three, but I really enjoyed them, so I’m hoping I can track down the entire series and finish it off!

What series do you refuse to give up on?

Ten Books to Read if You Enjoy John Green’s Books

September 29, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I thought I was going to struggle with this week’s topic, but once I’d decided on my theme, the ideas started flowing pretty easily! The books I’ve mentioned aren’t ones that are exactly alike John Green’s books, but they each have different elements or writing styles that are (in my mind) similar to John Green.

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and Bookish

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I’ve managed to pick exactly the right week to join back into the Top Ten Tuesday topics! I love putting together the seasonal TBRs, and this one was no exception!

Have you read any of these books? Which one do you think I should start with? (I’m thinking Siege and Storm!)

Top Ten Reads of 2015 So Far

July 28, 2015

I missed out on taking part in this topic the first time around a few weeks ago, and as I didn’t quite fancy doing this week’s topic, I thought I’d share my top ten reads of 2015 so far, as these books are all too good to not talk about as much as I can!

Admittedly, I’m so far behind on my reviews that I haven’t reviewed many of them at all, but hopefully that’s going to change in the next few weeks!

book covers for my top ten reads of 2015 so farEleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell – this is a book that has left a huge impression on me, and also proved to be one of the most difficult reviews I’ve tried to write!

Because You’ll Never Meet Me by Leah Thomas – one of my favourite books of 2015, and I want EVERYONE to read this book.

Me Being Me is Exactly as Insane as You Being You by Todd Hasak-Lowy – same for this book, such a fantastic read!

Hidden Huntress by Danielle L. Jensen – easily my most anticipated sequel of 2015, and it did not disappoint.

One by Sarah Crossan – a beautiful book written in free verse that I read in less than a morning, it was that addictive and compelling.

The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen – I swear this is everyone’s favourite contemporary, and I absolutely loved it too.

Since You’ve Been Gone by Morgan Matson – OF COURSE this was going to be on this list. It’s a Morgan Matson book.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater – a new installment for one of my favourite series, and once again, I loved it. Although I’m now desperate for the final book in the series!

If I Should Die by Amy Plum – I didn’t realise how much I loved this series until I read and finished this book, and now I’m sad that it’s over.

Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli – everyone who said this book was amazing: you were right. You were so, so right.

What have your favourite books of 2015 been? What books have I missed that you recommend?

Top Ten Books that JUST Came Into My Possession

July 14, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and BookishTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week’s topic was quite fortunate, as five of these books literally just landed themselves on my shelves after a splurge at Waterstones to cheer myself up after having to visit the emergency access dentist at the weekend. (boo!) Three are lucky Netgalley approvals, and the remaining two are books I panic-bought at the airport before my holiday in June.

Top Ten Favourite TTT Topics

June 23, 2015

Top Ten Tuesday Broke and BookishTop Ten Tuesday is a fun meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

This week we’re celebrating five years of this excellent meme by picking our favourite topics that we’ve ever covered. I love taking part in Top Ten Tuesday, so this was a really easy list for me to compile!

1) All the TBR Piles
We all know I’m absolutely pants at sticking to these most of the time, BUT, I cannot deny how much I enjoy putting these posts together. It’s so exciting seeing what other books people are planning on reading soon, even if it does normally cause my wishlist to grow in size…

2) Top Ten Blogging Tips
This was such a helpful topic, I think I’d been blogging for about 6 months when it came out and I really learned a lot by going round everyone’s posts and reading their tips.

3) Top Ten Book Related Problems I Have
I love the topics that allow me to poke fun at myself, and this one was no exception!

4) Top Ten New-to-me Authors of X
It’s so nice to be able to reflect on which authors made a big impact on me in a certain year, 9 times out of 10 they become new firm favourites.

5) Top Ten Best/Worst Series Endings
I split each book I mentioned into it’s own category, and had a total blast putting it together.

6) Top Ten Favourite First Lines from Books
Again, I had a total blast putting this together, I spent so much time on this post as I just really wanted each line to stand out.

7) Top Ten Books I Wish Were Taught in Schools
This was an important topic, and I honestly feel that reading in schools shouldn’t just be limited to the more difficult to read and engage with classics. Throw some modern, important books in there and pupils will get a LOT more out of them.

8) Top Ten Favourite Books I Read Before I Was a Blogger
I just know that I adored putting this topic together, so it had to be mentioned in this list.

9) Top Ten Bookish Memories
I literally just read through this post again and got the warm fuzzies from it.

10) Top Ten Books I’d Give a Theme Song To
This was the hardest TTT topic EVER. I kinda want to revisit it again during the next freebie week and see what I can come up with this time…
